Vaginismus is a sexual dysfunction in which the pelvic floor and vaginal muscles tighten and contract, making insertion of a penis or tampon impossible or very painful. This can also lead to pain during intercourse or health checkups.
Vaginismus can be caused by a variety of factors, including anxiety, trauma, or ignorance about sexuality and anatomy. There are treatments that can help in order to relieve the symptoms of vaginismus, such as pelvic floor exercises, behavioral therapy, and relaxation techniques.
